Last night I attended a Utah County Planning Commission Meeting in Provo.
A citizen named Jeff Hansen had proposed a Utah County Land Use Ordinance text amendment to Section 3-9 to eliminate the prohibition of a kitchen in a residential accessory structure.
Jeff wanted to build a swimming pool and install an outside kitchen. Three of the four Planning Commission members voted in favor of the text amendment.
After the meeting, I congratulated Jeff Hansen and told him that was the first ruling I had ever seen in Utah County for the cause of liberty.
One Planning Commission member remarked how their job is to protect the public’s health, safety and welfare. Why didn’t he mention liberty? Probably because liberty is rarely if ever represented.
Governments exist to protect liberty. Everything else is an appendage.
